THE DARK KNIGHT SKETCHES PART TWO

Here's the rest of the photos i have from the sketches i did at Liffey Valley's VUE Cinema.

Angry Batman. I like the bits of drybrush in this one.

Someone asked for the scene in the movie where Bats landed on the van smashing the windshield. Quite like this one. Smashy-smashy.

Another variation on the 'Why So Serious' Joker from the last post.

Two-Face.

A swooping Batman.

Another swooping Batman. I prefer the one above.

Batman hiding from the light. I'm quite fond of this one too.

Another Joker.

Not sure where this idea came from. Just popped into my head. I like it. I think i'm finally becoming more comfortable with my sketches. Between the last weekend, the sketches at Asylum, and the sketches at the 2D Festival, i did more good sketches than bad. About bloody time.

THE DARK KNIGHT SKETCHES PART ONE

Hey all, here's some of the sketches i did at the Liffey Valley VUE cinema over the weekend. Some of them are just generic poses, but i tried to make some of them a bit more relevant to the movie itself. I meant to photograph all of them, but only ended up taking photos of half of them. If anyone who sees this has a sketch, if possible could they scan it and mail it to me? I was pretty happy with most of them.

Two-Face. After seeing the movie the night before, this was the best that i could remember how he looked. I've seen it again since, and i've noticed a couple of things i got wrong, but it's still pretty close.

This was my pass at the scene of the fallout of the Joker's bombs. Really like this one.

Not really specific to the movie, this one. Someone specifically asked for Batman on a rooftop. It's your 10 Euros buddy, you got it.

I must have drawn 4 versions of this image. I didn't want to repeat any drawings as i generally feel that your first pass at a drawing is usually the best. When repeated, the drawing becomes stale. Still, lots o' folk really liked this image and wanted one just like it. Like i said in the last post, the ladies love the Heath Ledger Joker.

Strangely enough, this Joker looks more like me than Heath Ledger.

The classic Batman vs Joker headshot. After i took the photo i added shadow under Batman's nose; i think it needed it.

This is probably my favourite sketch of the weekend. It just turned out exactly like i wanted it to. Really wish i had a proper scan of this rather than this blurry photo.

Two-Face with Batman lurking in the background. Nuff said.

TRIPWIRE ANNUAL

This year's Tripwire annual should be out soon, there was a panel about it and the new Studio Space book at San Diego last weekend. Nice! There's lots of preview images on the Joel Meadows blog. The above cover is by 1985 artist (and uber-talented) Tommy Lee Edwards. The annual has interviews with Tim Kring, Matt Groening, David X. Cohen and many, many more. Also, a Stripwire feature with short stories by Roger Langridge, Jamie McKelvie and myself. Check it out.

Also, The Dark Knight appearance at the VUE in Liffey Valley went quite well. I must have sold over 30 different drawings. All the ladies really seemed to like the Heath Ledger Joker. Thanks to all at VUE for looking out for me and to Luke F and Adam Murray for poppin' out to say hello. I've photos of sketches; i'll post them later in the week.

THE DARK KNIGHT

No, this isn't one of the many, many praising blog posts about the new movie; i haven't seen it yet. Goin' tomorrow. BUT if anyone residing in Dublin has yet to see it, then pop by the VUE Cinema Liffey Valley on Saturday and Sunday where i'll be doing Batman sketches all day for folks.

Anyone who keeps up with this blog knows i do pretty decent Batman sketches. Be there or be very, very square. Again, that's VUE Cinema, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Fonthill Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22

FRANKENSTEIN PREVIEW

Over the next couple of months there should be preview images going up on various websites, but since I won't be posting for a while, i reckoned i should stick them up here. Ye may have seen some of these in black and white, but here they are in full coloured glory, thanks to the brilliant work of Jason Cardy and Kat Nicholson. They've done a great job on the book, and seeing the results of their labours makes me even more excited about the book coming out.

As you can see, the pages look great, and i'm speaking more of the colours than i am of my linework. Click on the links above to see more of the guys' work and if you're on Deviant Art, be sure to tell them what a great job they're doing.

Right, i'm off. I'll post again when i have a chance/ reason to.

NEW SKETCHES

Did a last-minute signing at Asylum Books and Games yesterday. Did some decent sketches. Here's some of them.

I'm afraid from now on blog posts will be less frequent; i'm in the process of packing for my move back to Ireland this week, and when i get there, i won't have any internet connection, so if i don't reply to any of your e-mails/comments, then just gimme a couple of days and i'll get back to ye.

Best,

HAUNTED LIVERPOOL

Last weekend saw the launch of John Reppion's new book Haunted Liverpool, a book I did a couple of Illustrations for. John was good enough to send me a copy, and it looks great. One of my illustrations even got a full-page in the book, which i was delighted with.

The book also features illustrations by Andy Bloor, David Hitchcock, Juan Navarro, Leah Moore, Mo Ali and Oliver Redding. Check out the book's blog for more.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

Just spent a couple of days in Glasgow meeting up with comic creator folk, taking reference photos, etc. I also got a chance to see one of my favourite bands, My Bloody Valentine. They broke up years ago (long before i got into them) so getting a chance to see them live was a dream come true. It's been two days and i still can't hear properly; it was AMAZING! See above for a little taste of the aural assault.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE

Well, two of them at least. A Captain America/ Hawkeye commission.

In other news i got a mention on Lying in the Gutters this week ...kinda. Regarding the forthcoming Tripwire annual...

"...and original strips from Roger Langridge, Jamie McKelvie and Declan Shalve."

Sigh. That's the third time i've gotten a mention in public where my name's been spelt wrong. Maybe i should just change it to O'Brien or something. Still, nice to get the name out there a bit.
